The Dictionary of Received Ideas
Sound machine - amplified sound of the rattle of cup in a saucer
Extract from the show site written by Erica Shiozaki
"James Wright is an artist/curator based in London, UK. His practice involves various facets including sound making, performance, sculpture and ceramics. His current interest concerns the study of objects positioned as props within his works, and its construction of theatrical reality. For The Dictionary of Received Ideas, James Wright has assembled a sonic sculpture that captures and emits the subtle but resonating sound of a ceramic espresso cup, creating an eerie yet strangely serene atmosphere. Enticed by the presence of the dramatic red velvet curtain, the sculptural element is pronounced, the quiet humming of the porcelain cup enunciated, all within a place where another form of object/prop reality is made tangible."
